Firthfields Community Association

The Firthfields Community Association was formed and a Constitution adopted on the 7th January 1985.

The aim of the Association was to provide facilities for recreation and leisure-time activities for the "..inhabitants of East Garforth.." the "..area of Garforth to the north of the railway line.." and to secure the establishment of a Community Centre for those people. This was duly done and the Firthfields Community Centre was officially opened by Councillor Greg Moakes on December 4th 1985.

To this day the Association, a registered charity, continues to strive to raise the funds necessary to provide these facilities for the community through the management of the Committee Trustees.

The building itself is owned by Leeds City Council but the management of it is carried out by the elected Committee of volunteers.

Despite the belief of many people, the Committee does not receive any financial help from the Council towards the running costs of the Centre. All the monies needed to keep the Centre open and in good order comes from the hiring out of the Centre, the 200 Club and from the various fundraising activities carried out on behalf of the Committee.
